Dinner - Staff were friendly but struggling - poor lad on the bar was having a tough time keeping on top of taking food and drink ordered on his own and had no time to clear the bar etc. He was obviously frustrated by the situation but absolutely doing his best. Food was fine - nice and hot, cheap enough. Breakfast - really friendly and welcoming staff but definitely the saddest 'Premier Inn breakfast' I've ever had. The cooked breakfast isn't served as a buffet but ordered with waiting staff. My scrambled eggs and bacon came out quickly and was nice and hot but the scrambled eggs were bland and insipid. I wouldn't bother booking breakfast to be honest - I should have just gone to McDonald's across the way!
Called in mid afternoon to be told that there was a limited food menu as the kitchen was awaiting new grills. Don't understand why fish and chips were not available but fishcake and chips were! I had the lasagne which was quite tasty. Hubbie had a burger but apparently no burger buns of any description were available so the burger came with two slices of dry white bread! We had a 40% off voucher so overall it was pk but I suggest you give the restaurant a wide berth for a while until they sort the kitchen.
No one to meet us on arrival for breakfast so didn't know what we was doing. All stations needed filling up ie, breads & fruits & juices. No one about to take our cooked order so had to hunt someone down to ask. Cooked arrived, every thing was clap cold. The sausages were barely cooked, black pudding was cremated, scrambled egg was dry & tasteless as were the hash browns. Only decent thing was the coffee!
Had the steak and ale pie with mash and it was a real treat. Got an extra pot of custard with my brownies too. An absolute winner. Staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful.
Good atmosphere, good food, good service. Worth a visit.
