|A site manager from York has been recognised as one of the best in the country for his outstanding work in building quality homes. Paul Douglass, aged 54, has won a prestigious Pride in the Job award from the National House Building Council (NHBC) for his role at Redrow’s Kingsley Manor development in Harrogate. This award is considered the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry, highlighting the importance of excellence in home construction.
Pride In The Job Awards
The Pride in the Job awards celebrate the very best site managers across the UK, with thousands of inspections conducted to determine the winners. The assessment process is quite rigorous, focusing on six key areas:
Consistency - Maintaining high standards throughout the project.
Attention to Detail - Ensuring every aspect of construction is carefully executed.
Leadership - Guiding the team effectively and fostering a positive work environment.
Interpretation of Drawings and Specifications - Understanding and implementing architectural plans accurately.
Technical Expertise - Possessing a deep knowledge of building practices and regulations.
Health and Safety - Prioritising safety on site to protect workers and future residents.
Paul Douglass has a wealth of experience, having worked in the construction industry for 38 years. He began his career at just 15 years old as a labourer and has steadily climbed the ranks to become a site manager. This is the second consecutive year he has received the Pride in the Job award, a testament to his dedication and skill.
A Team Effort

Paul expressed gratitude towards his team:
“This is an award for all the team; I have a brilliant team around me.”
He lives in York with his wife Debbie and stepchildren Leah and Josh. As Kingsley Manor nears completion, Paul and his team are thrilled to have received this prestigious award. The Kingsley Manor development is part of a wider effort to provide high-quality homes in Harrogate, an area known for its beautiful landscapes and rich history. With a focus on building homes that meet the needs of the community, Redrow is making significant contributions to local housing.
Redrow’s Commitment To Quality
In total, Barratt Redrow site managers won 122 Pride in the Job awards this year, more than any other housebuilder. This marks the 22nd consecutive year that Barratt Redrow has outperformed all other builders in this category, highlighting the company’s commitment to creating high-quality homes.
John Handley, managing director at Redrow Yorkshire, said,
“These awards demonstrate our long-term commitment to looking after our customers and building high quality homes.”
He emphasised that the awards not only recognise the efforts of site managers but also the hard work of the entire team, including suppliers and contractors. When buying a home from a site managed by an award winner, customers can be assured that their home has been built to the highest standards, giving them peace of mind.
Raising Standards In Housebuilding
The Pride in the Job awards play a crucial role in raising standards within the housebuilding sector. By showcasing the vital role site managers play in delivering new homes on time and to high quality standards, the awards encourage excellence across the industry. Site managers like Paul Douglass not only lead their teams but also mentor assistant site managers, helping to improve skills and quality throughout the workforce. Earlier this year, Barratt Redrow also achieved a five-star rating in the HBF Customer Satisfaction Survey, which recognises both build quality and customer care. This is the 17th year in a row that Barratt Redrow customers have awarded it a five-star rating, reinforcing the company’s long-term dedication to customer satisfaction.
