|Fancy a night out that's a bit different? Something that combines brilliant live music, fantastic local beer, and the chance to do some good all at once.
Well, an event is coming up that ticks all those boxes. Imagine tapping your feet to some classic swing tunes, pint in hand, all while supporting a really important local charity. A fundraising night at Wold Top Brewery is on the cards, featuring two of the area's most popular bands. It's a proper community get-together set in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds.

Get ready for a swinging good time at Wold Top
Tickets are now on sale for what promises to be a cracking night of entertainment. On Saturday, 4th October, the Wold Top Brewery is opening its doors for a special fundraising event. Kicking off at 7 pm, the main attraction is the live music from two superb Scarborough swing bands. Both the Cloughton Rat Pack and King Willy's Big Band are set to perform, bringing their infectious energy to the brewery.
These bands are local legends for a reason, and when they play, they really pull in a crowd. Sam Smith from the Wold Top events team had this to say:
"The fabulous and ever-popular Cloughton Rat Pack and King Willy's Big Band are swinging their way to the Brewery for what promises to be an immense night of live music, dancing, great beer, and fundraising for Saint Catherine's Hospice. Tickets sold quickly when they played here last year, so we're encouraging people not to delay booking."
It sounds like booking ahead is a good plan. A ticket for this brilliant event costs £15 (plus a small booking fee), and that even includes your first pint of beer or a soft drink. And if you're thinking of making a proper night of it and not worrying about getting home, you can pre-book a basic camping pitch for just £12. What a great idea. This live music night is just one part of the brewery's packed 2025 programme, which is set to include all sorts of community fun, from exciting beer festivals to classic pub quiz nights.
A story of friendship and fundraising
This isn't just any old gig. The story behind one of the bands, the Cloughton Rat Pack, is genuinely touching. The band was formed back in 2007 by a group of mates: Paul Mintoft, Steve Chambers, Jezz Pratt, Clive Welburn, and Tim Osborne. They wanted to give something back to Saint Catherine's Hospice as a way of saying thank you for the amazing care the hospice provided for their friend, Mick Readman.
Their fundraising journey started with things like talent shows, quiz nights, and an annual memorial cricket weekend. And they were pretty good at it, raising over £4,000 in those early days. But they wanted to do more. One day, another friend, Mark Gay, came up with a suggestion: why not form a band? They took his advice, and the rest, as they say, is history. The Cloughton Rat Pack was born, and they've been raising money and entertaining crowds ever since. It just shows what can happen when good people get together for a great cause. Every ticket sold for this event continues that incredible legacy of community support.
What's the deal with Wold Top Brewery?
If you haven't been before, Wold Top is a fantastic brewery with a great story of its own. Founded back in 2003, it's a family affair, located on the Mellor family farm at Hunmanby Grange, just a stone's throw from the seaside town of Filey. This isn't just a business plopped in the middle of nowhere; it's part of the landscape of the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds.
What makes their beer so special? Well, they're all about local ingredients. The team uses barley that's grown right there on the Mellor family farm. Talk about keeping it local. Even the water comes from the farm's own borehole, which is basically a private well drilled deep into the ground to access pure, chalk-filtered water. This farm-to-glass approach results in a fantastic range of award-winning beers.
They produce everything from traditional cask ale (the proper stuff you get pulled by a hand pump in a pub) and fizzy keg beer to handy bottled beers you can take home. Whether you're a fan of real ale or a crisp lager, there's likely a Wold Top beer for you. Their brilliant brews are enjoyed not just across Yorkshire but all over the country, which is a testament to the quality that comes from this farm-based brewery.
