Welcome to Yorkshire

|Residents at Springbank Care Home recently enjoyed a thrilling trip back in time as they hosted the Ormsheim Vikings for an exciting Viking re-enactment. This engaging event was part of the home’s ‘Moments That Matter’ initiative, which encourages residents, families, and staff to suggest meaningful activities that resonate with individual interests. The inspiration for this particular day came from a resident who has always been fascinated by Viking history.
Bringing History to Life
Thanks to the efforts of the home’s activities team, the Viking re-enactors set up camp right in the care home. They brought along an impressive collection of authentic Viking gear, including swords, chainmail, and traditional board games, allowing residents to interact with history in a hands-on way. Throughout the day, the resident who inspired the event was clearly in her element, her face lighting up with joy as she participated in the demonstrations, held the artefacts, and shared her passion with others.

The entire community at Springbank Care Home was captivated by the event, which featured interactive demonstrations and fascinating storytelling. Among the re-enactors was a young girl whose warmth and patience won the hearts of everyone present, especially the residents. Her ability to connect with those in the care home helped create a friendly atmosphere, making the experience even more enjoyable.
Moments That Matter Initiative
The ‘Moments That Matter’ campaign at Springbank Care Home is focused on person-centred care, tailoring experiences to reflect the unique lives and interests of each resident. Previous successes include arranging for resident Ivan to attend a loved one’s wedding and creating a special poetry session for a former nurse on International Nurses Day. These activities demonstrate how the care home values the individuality of its residents and strives to provide fulfilling experiences.
Gratitude from the Team
Molly, the Activity Coordinator at Springbank Care Home, expressed her heartfelt thanks to the Ormsheim Vikings, saying:
“On behalf of everyone at our care home, I would like to say a huge thank you to the Ormsheim Vikings for taking the time to visit us. Your enthusiasm, knowledge, and the effort you put into making the experience interactive were truly appreciated. It was wonderful to see so many smiles and hear the conversations that continued long after your visit had ended.”
April Howie, the Deputy Manager, also shared her thoughts, stating:
“Our ‘Moments That Matter’ initiative is all about celebrating the individuality of our residents and ensuring they continue to live fulfilled lives rich with experiences that truly matter to them. Seeing the joy on our residents’ faces and how engaged the entire home was with the Ormsheim Vikings proves just how impactful these person-led activities are. We are incredibly proud of our team for making this happen and look forward to welcoming the group back in the future.”
