Welcome to Yorkshire

•Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) and the University of Huddersfield (UoH) are proud to be part of a growing global movement as they unite with over 140 organisations worldwide to mark International Paramedics Day on July 8, 2025.
This year’s theme — "Unity and Community" — strikes a powerful chord, celebrating the vital role paramedics play in healthcare systems, not just as individuals, but as key players in collaborative, compassionate care.
A Yorkshire Effort in a Global Movement
Founded by the UK’s College of Paramedics, International Paramedics Day (IPD) was first launched in 2022 and has quickly become a global event. Yorkshire’s own ambulance crews and healthcare educators are helping lead the charge in celebrating the profession and raising awareness of the essential role paramedics play in saving lives and strengthening communities.
YAS and UoH are joining forces with international partners to spotlight the extraordinary teamwork behind every emergency response — whether on the frontlines, behind the scenes, or in academic research and training.
Unity and Community: More Than a Theme
As Chief Executive of the College of Paramedics, Tracy Nicholls, puts it:
“Paramedicine is not just a profession — it is a collective calling… When we unite, we may not only end up changing lives, we have the potential to transform futures as well.”
This sentiment underpins the day’s mission: to celebrate the unique collaboration between paramedics, their teams, and the people they serve. From emergency call handlers to paramedic students, IPD 2025 is a chance to honour the full spectrum of contributions that keep our health system running — especially here in Yorkshire.
Why July 8?
International Paramedics Day falls on July 8 in honour of Dominique Jean Larrey, chief surgeon to Napoleon Bonaparte and often regarded as the father of modern-day ambulance services. His pioneering spirit lives on through today’s paramedics, who are constantly adapting, innovating, and improving patient care across the world.
