|A big win for Wakefield Trinity fans as Isaiah Vagana has signed a 3 year deal to keep him at the club until the end of 2027. This young Kiwi forward has been making waves in the Betfred Championship and now he’ll make his Super League debut in 2025 following in the footsteps of his famous father Joe Vagana who played for Bradford Bulls in the early 2000’s.
So what does this mean for Wakefield Trinity and why is Vagana’s re-signing good news for fans? Here’s the lowdown for the club and the player.

Big impact in first year
Vagana joined Wakefield from the New Zealand Warriors at the start of 2024 and quickly became a fan favourite. Even with a hand injury that kept him out for 4 months he played 15 games including Championship Play-Off matches, showing his toughness and resilience. He impressed fans and coaches alike and has been rewarded with this extension.
At 24 he’s still got plenty of time to grow and the club and fans are excited to see what he can do as a Super League player.
Following in famous footsteps
One of the best bits about Vagana’s journey is the legacy he brings. His father Joe Vagana was a superstar in the Super League’s golden era playing as a forward for Bradford Bulls. Now Isaiah has the chance to build his own legacy and he can’t wait.
He said:
“I’ve loved it here! The coaches, staff, players and fans have been so welcoming and made me feel at home. We had a good year this year and have done the work to get back into Super League. The club is in a good place and has a bright future and I want to be a part of it so when the club offered me the chance to stay I couldn’t say no!”
A Big Win for Wakefield Trinity
In rugby league, keeping a rising star like Vagana is a big deal. Ste Mills, Wakefield’s Recruitment Manager, explained how important this contract extension is for the club, not just for Super League but to keep a talented player who could have been poached by bigger clubs.
“As a club we see this as a big retention. Isaiah has everything you want in a big, powerful forward who can play on an edge too. He’s only going to get better and it’s great to see him and his family settle in the UK and take his game to a whole new level,” Mills said. “This is a player the big clubs would have come and poached, but this time we wanted to make sure he’s not going anywhere. I’m sure he’ll be a fan favourite once we see him unleash his talent.”
What to look out for in 2025
With Vagana back, Wakefield Trinity look well equipped to bring some much needed energy and depth to Super League in 2025. Vagana’s ability to play on the edge as a forward could be a game changer for the squad and his commitment is a good sign for the future.
And to top it all off fans have even more to be pleased about: Vagana has a sponsor for the 2025 season from Brian and Brenda Clark, so local support for his journey. The Clarks’ sponsorship shows the community are excited about what he can bring to the club.
Why this matters
This isn’t just a contract extension; it’s a statement of intent from Wakefield Trinity. By keeping Vagana for three more years they’re setting the tone for what they hope will be a new era of stability and growth in Super League. For Vagana it’s an opportunity to make his mark on the league and carve out his own legacy, alongside his dad’s.
As Wakefield prepare for a big season fans can look forward to cheering on Isaiah Vagana in the Red, White and Blue. With his talent, his determination and his family in the game he could be the spark that makes 2025 a season to remember.
