Welcome to Yorkshire

|The Royal Shakespeare Company is taking its award-winning musical, Matilda The Musical, back on the road! From October 2025 it will visit several cities across the UK and Ireland. It’s the second time the show has gone on tour and it’s going to be just as brilliant as it was in the West End.
So, for Bradford fans, the wait won’t be too long. The production will be at the Alhambra Theatre from Thursday, 30th October until Sunday, 23rd November 2025.
Tickets are £21.25 - £88.25 and go on general sale on Thursday, 24th October 2024. If you’re a Bradford Theatres’ Friend you can book from Tuesday, 22nd October 2024.

A show loved around the world
First opened in 2010 Matilda The Musical has become a global phenomenon. Based on Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book, the story of Matilda Wormwood—a brave, clever girl with a big imagination—has been seen by 12 million people in over 100 cities! And to top it off it’s won over 100 global awards, including 24 for Best Musical.
The tour starts in Leicester on 6th October 2025 and will celebrate its 15th birthday that month. It will then visit Liverpool, Plymouth, Sunderland, Edinburgh and Manchester with more dates to be announced next year.
The creative team
Matilda The Musical is the brainchild of a talented team. Written by Dennis Kelly with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, developed and directed by Matthew Warchus. Set and costume design by Rob Howell and choreography by Peter Darling. Special effects by Paul Kieve.
Here’s what some of the creative team have said about the tour:
Dennis Kelly, writer:
“I’m thrilled Matilda is going out on tour in 2025. It’s great to get to take this little girl’s story to people in their own towns and cities and all those theatres where theatre really counts.”
Tim Minchin, composer and lyricist:
“When we started working on the show we wanted to create a little gem of a musical for the RSC’s Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. We never thought all these years later it would still be running in the West End, made into a film and now about to go on its second UK and Ireland tour. I’m very proud of Matilda The Musical.”
Matthew Warchus, director:
“Lovely to see our production of Matilda The Musical seen by a whole new generation of children and families. We’re very proud of it and we really care about this brave story.”
Celebrating a milestone in Bradford
For Bradford this is extra special as 2025 is the city’s City of Culture year. The show’s executive producers, Denise Wood and Griselda Yorke:
“We are proud of our show and for us to be able to tour it and visit cities like Bradford so that audiences can see this little girl’s amazing story”
Full cast and additional creative team to be announced soon but one thing’s for sure it’s going to be fabulous.
