It’s that time of year again when Harrogate becomes a winter wonderland. And one of the best bits? The return of Harrogate’s North Pole Post Office! Now in its fifth year, this lovely little setup is back to let kids (and the kid in you) send your Christmas wishes to Father Christmas himself. From now until Tuesday, December 24 the North Pole post box will be open at 32 Cheltenham Parade, Harrogate HG1 1DB.

What’s so special about it? This isn’t just a post box – it’s surrounded by twinkly fairy lights, snow flurries and Christmas tunes so every letter drop off feels like a special moment.

Free for all the family

Whether you live locally or are visiting, the North Pole Post Office is a lovely experience. Children can download a special letter template from Father Christmas from the Harrogate International Festivals website or scan the QR code at the post box. It’s an easy way to add a bit of extra magic to their Christmas wishes.

And that’s not all. This year Harrogate’s North Pole Post Office has partnered with local businesses to add a bit of extra festive fun. When you scan the QR code you’ll unlock discounts and offers from Harrogate favourites like Starling Cafe, The Crown Hotel, The Four Leaf, Jespers, Primark and Althams Travel. Perfect for combining your letter posting with a bit of holiday shopping or a treat!

A tradition with love

The post office is new to some but for many families in Harrogate it’s become an annual tradition. Matthew Chapman, Harrogate BID Manager, says:

“Harrogate is such a lovely place at Christmas and we are thrilled to be sponsoring the North Pole Post Office again. It brings so many families into the town centre during the festive period and for many of them it’s become an annual tradition.”

The initiative, funded by Harrogate BID and produced by Harrogate International Festivals, is about community. Local businesses, organisations and families come together to make something special.

From lockdown to legacy

It’s interesting to note the North Pole Post Office started during the lockdown years – a time when festive traditions were scarce. Sharon Canavar, Chief Executive at Harrogate International Festivals, looks back at its origins and its enduring popularity:

“The North Pole Post Office was born out of lockdown to create a bit of festive fun for children so it’s lovely to see it’s one of our most popular community events. Free for all the family to join in, it’s a chance to enjoy the lights, snow and festive music and make some special Christmas magic.”

Why Harrogate shines at Christmas

Harrogate’s charm during Christmas is undeniable. From the sparkling lights to family-friendly activities like the North Pole Post Office, it’s a town that truly embraces the season. So, if you’re looking for a way to make this Christmas unforgettable, grab your little ones, write those letters to Father Christmas, and soak in the festive atmosphere.

Keep an eye on the town centre—there’s magic in the air!
