|Ever had that nagging feeling in the back of your mind while you’re out? You know the one. You’re trying to enjoy a film at the cinema or a meal with mates, but you keep thinking about your car’s battery level. For electric vehicle drivers, ‘range anxiety’ is a real thing. But for anyone heading to Leeds, that worry is about to become a thing of the past. A massive, new public charging hub has just opened at one of the city's most popular spots, making it easier than ever to power up while you play. This isn't just a couple of extra plugs; it's the largest high-powered EV charging hub in the whole of Yorkshire, and it’s officially open for business as of 9 April 2026.

What's all the buzz about at Cardigan Fields?
Imagine pulling into a retail park and having a massive choice of chargers, no matter what your plans are for the day. That's the new reality at Cardigan Fields. The company behind this, RAW Charging, has installed a whopping 32 charging bays. This is a huge deal for drivers in the north of England. This new charging hub is part of a giant £24.5 million investment project between RAW Charging and Landsec, the property company that owns some of the biggest and best retail and leisure destinations across the UK. Their partnership aims to build a solid network of EV infrastructure where people actually want to spend their time, making the switch to electric cars a whole lot easier for everyone. Think about it – instead of finding a special charging station and waiting around, you can just go about your day.
A charger for every occasion
Not all car chargers are created equal, and the team at RAW Charging knows this. The new hub at Cardigan Fields offers a mix of speeds to suit different needs, which is brilliant for visitors. So, what’s on offer? Let’s break it down:
14 AC fast chargers: These are perfect if you're settling in for a long film at the cinema or having a proper catch-up over dinner at one of the park's restaurants. They give your car a steady, solid charge over a couple of hours, just like plugging your phone in overnight.
6 DC50 rapid chargers: In a bit more of a hurry? The DC50 rapid chargers are your friend. They give a much quicker boost of power. Ideal if you're popping into the gym or grabbing a quick bite to eat and need to get back on the road.
12 DC150 ultra-rapid chargers: These are the real superstars. The DC150 ultra-rapid chargers are incredibly powerful. They can get your battery from nearly empty to mostly full in the time it takes to grab a coffee. For drivers just passing through Leeds or anyone needing a super-fast top-up, this is a game-changer. This level of high-powered charging is key to supporting the boom in electric vehicle adoption.
This variety means no more waiting around or planning your entire day around a slow charger. The whole setup is designed to be a reliable and flexible part of your day out, with brilliant 24/7 availability so you can get a charging session in whenever you need it.
Why this is a big deal for Yorkshire and beyond
With more people in the UK switching to electric cars, the need for good, accessible public charging points is massive. This new charging hub at Cardigan Fields isn’t just about adding a few plugs; it's about building confidence. It shows that big companies are serious about making the EV infrastructure work for real people. The Landsec partnership is rolling out similar hubs across 25 of its top locations, including Doncaster, meaning millions of visitors will have access to top-quality, reliable charging facilities. Having such a big investment in Yorkshire is fantastic news for the region. It puts places like Cardigan Fields on the map for EV drivers and supports the shift to greener travel. The fact that it's located somewhere with a cinema, bowling alley, and plenty of restaurants makes perfect sense – it integrates charging into everyday life. You're not going out of your way; you're just plugging in where you're already parked. What could be easier?
To celebrate the launch, there’s even a special offer. Drivers can get free charging by signing up to RAW Rewards at the new hub between Monday 13 April and Sunday 19 April 2026. It’s a great chance to check out the new setup.
The company has a strong reputation, too. RAW Charging has been recognised with awards for its network and even has an ICC Gold accreditation, which is a mark of quality and trust in the industry. As Neil Broadbank, Chief Commercial Officer at RAW Charging, put it:
“We are delighted to bring Yorkshire its largest high-powered public EV charging hub at Cardigan Fields. This installation is a significant milestone in our partnership with Landsec and our mission to connect amazing places across the UK. With 24/7 availability and a mix of fast and ultra-rapid chargers, drivers can recharge their vehicles conveniently while enjoying everything Cardigan Fields has to offer. Our work with blue-chip clients such as Landsec demonstrates our expertise in delivering reliable, future-proof EV charging solutions that enhance the visitor experience.”
Mark Welsby, the Centre Manager at Cardigan Fields, was just as pleased about what this means for customers and the local area:
“We are delighted our customers can now use the new ultra-rapid charging hub at Cardigan Fields. As demand for electric vehicles in the local area continues to grow, it’s vital that our retail destinations offer the infrastructure and convenience that drivers need. We look forward to continuing our work with RAW Charging to deliver more EV hubs across our portfolio, driving meaningful progress towards net zero and creating long-term value for our communities.”
