Are you ready for the spotlight? Powerhouse, a brand-new theatre company, is calling young stars to audition for their upcoming production of Les Misérables: School Edition. If you're aged 9 to 18 and dreaming of performing on stage, this could be your big break.

Set to be performed at Unity Hall, Wakefield, this isn’t just a school play—it’s the full-length version of one of the world’s most beloved musicals. Let's dive into the details and see why this opportunity is so exciting.

What’s Powerhouse all about?

Powerhouse was founded by Andrew Ashley and Andy Fretwell, seasoned theatre professionals with over a decade of success with their previous company, Diva Productions. If the names sound familiar, you might recall their five-star hits like Grease, Ghost, and Sweeney Todd—even a West End debut with Rita, Sue and Bob Too in 2024.

Now, they’re ready to inspire the next generation. Powerhouse focuses on giving young performers the tools, mentorship, and stage experience to shine.

Why Les Misérables?

This isn’t just any musical. Les Misérables has been running in London since 1985 and is still capturing hearts worldwide. Based on Victor Hugo's novel, it tells a sweeping tale of redemption, love, and revolution in 19th-century France. From Jean Valjean's powerful journey to the iconic barricades of the French Revolution, it’s packed with unforgettable music and drama.

Powerhouse plans to bring a modern twist to this classic, with staging and interpretations designed to connect with today’s audience.

How you can audition

Open auditions are happening in Ossett, Wakefield, on Sunday, 2 February 2025. If your child loves to sing, dance, and act, Powerhouse wants to hear from them.

This isn’t just about putting on a show—it’s about working with top directors, choreographers, and musicians, gaining experience that will stick with young performers for a lifetime.

Why should you get involved?

Performing in a musical like Les Misérables offers so much more than applause. It’s about building confidence, teamwork, and resilience. Plus, imagine telling your friends you’re in a show as famous as this!

The directors aren’t looking for perfection—they’re looking for passion, hard work, and enthusiasm. As Andrew Ashley puts it, “We want young performers who aren’t afraid to work hard and want to be challenged.”

Final thoughts

Whether you’re dreaming of a career in theatre or just want to experience the thrill of a big production, this is an opportunity not to be missed. Who knows? Today’s audition could be tomorrow’s West End debut!
