|Sometimes, a cosy trip to the cinema is just what you need, and this weekend, Whitby Pavilion Cinema has something roaring to get you there. The highly anticipated Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to the 2019 live-action The Lion King, is taking centre stage. It’s not every day you get to explore the backstory of one of Disney’s most iconic kings!
After an amazing run of Dick Whittington by Whitby’s own Apollo Players—which brought in over 1,500 happy audience members—it’s now time for the big screen to shine again at the Pavilion. So, what can you expect? Let’s dive in.

Mufasa: The Lion King's journey begins
Starting this Friday, 24th January 2025, Mufasa: The Lion King promises to whisk you away on an epic adventure. The film follows a young, orphaned Mufasa, who meets Taka, a lion destined for royalty. Together, they embark on a journey full of twists, turns, and a quirky group of companions—all searching for their purpose in life. Think of it as the ultimate origin story for the lion who would become king.
It’s got everything you’d hope for in a Disney flick: emotional moments, stunning visuals, and a soundtrack that’ll likely be stuck in your head for weeks. Whether you’re an old-school Lion King fan or just looking for a fun family outing, this is one not to miss.
