I was so sad when our favourite local IMAX cinema at Bradford's National Science and Media Museum closed in June 2023 for a major refurbishment as we loved going to see the latest block buster movies on its giant screen accompanied by the superb surround sound in the theatre. We were so happy when it reopened in December 2024 after completion of the museum's £6m "Sound and Vision" capital project and we were able to resume watching films back on the largest screen in the UK - I have been coming since 1983 when it was the first IMAX cinema to open in Europe. Today we selected and booked seats online for the 3pm screening of the new Leonardo Dicaprio film 'One battle after another'. We usually go to watch Screenings in the afternoons when the IMAX cinema is very quiet and today was no different with about 14 customers in the 200 seat cinema. We really enjoyed the film with the giant screen immersing us directly into the movie and the thunderous sound pulling us into the action, especially during the fantastic car chase scenes. There is a small stand at the entrance to the cinema selling popcorn, snacks and drinks. Wheel chair users get into the top of the cinema via a lift, where they have reserved spaces. There are free disabled parking spaces directly in front of the main entrance to the museum with a large paid car park at the rear. Watching a film on an ordinary size cinema screen just doesn't give the same experience as watching it on the giant IMAX screen and if there is a choice we will always watch it at the IMAX Bradford.
Had a great day very interesting and good fun for all ages. IMAX is brilliant 3D putty it's not 4D but well worth a visit especially on long winter weekends.
The kids love it here it’s great for all ages
IMAX is one of those 'jaw-dropping' experiences and the staff are very welcoming and helpful.
Great experience, huge screen and fun 3D experience. Really friendly staff also. Just a star less for the carparking being really expensive with no other car parks nearby.
