The redevelopment of Albion Square in Hull is moving forward as Hull City Council has appointed Capital&Centric as the preferred lead development partner. This decision was announced on 19 May 2026, during the UK’s Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum held in Leeds. Capital&Centric's Role

The company has been chosen after a thorough selection process, which included a formal procurement exercise. The council is now set to engage in detailed discussions with Capital&Centric to finalise the development agreement, including plans for the demolition of the old BHS building that currently stands in Albion Square.

This includes the installation of a specialist steel support structure to protect the historic Three Ships Mural, which holds a Grade II listed status, during the construction works. Temporary hoarding will also be erected around the site to ensure safety and preserve the area’s aesthetics during the redevelopment process.

Funding Support

The Albion Square redevelopment is supported by significant funding, including £12 million from the government’s Levelling Up fund and £833,000 from Homes England. Additionally, a £2.5 million grant from the Local Growth Fund has been allocated for asbestos removal and the demolition of the Edwin Davis building. These funds are essential for facilitating the redevelopment and ensuring that the project meets both safety and environmental standards.
