About Hull New Theatre
Description
Hull New Theatre’s beginnings go as far back as 1924, when the Hull Repertory Theatre formed and began performing at the ‘Little Theatre’ in Kingston Square. In 1939 Peppino Santangelo bought the Assembly Rooms next door and on 16th October Hull New Theatre officially opened its doors for the first time when the curtain rose on a production of Noel Gay’s Me and My Girl. Thanks to Santangelo’s vision and hard work performances continued throughout World War II, even surviving a direct hit, before he retired in 1959. Hull City Council took over the running of the theatre in the 1960s to prevent it from being turned into a bingo hall! Peppino Santangelo’s dream was to create a tradition of ‘playing for the people’ and this remains true today.
Hull New Theatre re-opened on Saturday 16 September 2017 with a gala performance by The Royal Ballet, following a £16million refurbishment. We look forward to welcoming customers old and new to see our incredible transformation.

Fantastic Theatre, and the 1st time I've been in, we will come back; Shows: we went to see The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S Lewis as a Musical and it was fantastic. The Stage Sets were fantastic Accessibility: good, lifts and slopes. Phone ahead and book wheelchair places. Acoustics: great, only lost a little when an actor spoke to quietly which was rare. Viewing: we were in the 2nd row of the Circle, 1st road would be a challenge to see over the balcony and the lights for those a tad short as my bestie found on a previous visit! Car Parking: take the bus or a taxi! We walked. Staff: great, helpful and friendly. Toilets: plenty, including Disabled.
What a great place for shows. The staff are always very helpful and kind and the venue is awesome. The smallest downside is the amount of toilets that are avaliable is a bit on the small side so when the show is on a break it's a bit of a rush to get back to the seat. Otherwise fantastic. There is a car park near by and disabled parking out front. The types of shows that are put on also are great.
Went to see a pantomime on New Year's Eve. Lady production of Beauty and the Beast. Great panto. Some good gags for adults as well as kids. Barry Chuckle and Sue Cleaver headlined but supporting stats were all great too. Good enjoyable fun for all.
Staff were extremely pleasant and professional. The bistro was clean and comfortable. Nice chips, shame about the luke warm homemade quiche, which was bland and not particularly fresh and very overpriced. The performance was fantastic (Inside No.9). Great production, lighting, sound etc. My seat was faulty but reasonably comfortable. I would definitely recommend Hull New Theatre, just avoid that quiche 😜.
Despite being up in the Gods we had an excellent view and could hear everything clearly. Seats were comfortable and not as cramped as many places. Refreshments could be ordered online and delivered to your seat. Staff were friendly and helpful. Altogether a pleasant experience.
