About Hull Minster
Description
At over 700 years old, Hull Minster is as old as Hull itself. Since the 13th Century we have been a constant presence in the city centre and some say the history of the city is literally written in our walls.
With royal origins, walls built inside separating townsfolk from soldiers, strong connections to great people like Andrew Marvell and William Wilberforce, stained glass windows of national significance, and surviving both Zeppelin raids and Nazi bombings during the first and second world wars respectively, Hull Minster has an amazing story to tell.
A visit to Hull Minster is like stepping back through the ages in a city that has more than meets the eye.

I love visiting churches and as a family historian, my particular interest is reading all the old memorials and gravestones, of which there are plenty here. Apparently the largest parish church in England, this place had a title upgrade to being called a Minster more recently. As well as including an interesting range of stained glass, there are some impressive painted ceilings. We bought a guide but there are also QR codes so you can follow several different heritage trails. Free to visit but donations appreciated.
Walking around Hull and the market found the minster so we thought to pop in, During the visit we found that a trip up to the clock and bells could be done. Think it was only 10 pounds so nothing really. Met the bell ringers which was really nice they knew a lot about the history and the history of bell ringing in Hull. You can really see the City of hull at the top well worth the time but make sure you wrap up in the winter!
I was in Hull completing the Mischief of Rats Sculpture Trail. Having walked into the city via the marina, I couldn't resist a look inside the beautiful Minster. The staff were so welcoming and answered all my questions. I also took the opportunity to have a cuppa and cake at the cafe. I got talking to some lovely ladies here, too. Fabulous facilities here, too. Very clean. This is definitely worth a visit, whether for a reflective moment, prayer, or just simply to admire the architecture and stained glass windows. It had such a lovely feel about it that on another occasion, I would really want to get to a service.
We had a wonderful experience celebrating our wedding at Hull Minster. The building itself is stunning, and it created such a memorable setting for the day. Everything ran smoothly, and the atmosphere felt calm, organised, and welcoming from start to finish. A special thank you to Lauren, the coordinator, whose support made a real difference. She was clear, efficient, and incredibly helpful throughout the planning process and on the day itself. Her communication was excellent, and she made sure every detail was in place so we could relax and enjoy the moment. Thank you so much!
Didn't get chance to climb the tower but had a lovely quiche and wedges in the cafe! All staff seemed kind and knowledgeable, definitely worth a visit
