Visit Yorkshire Christmas Markets For £2 On A Northern Train

Welcome to Yorkshire

Published on November 18th, 2025

Getting into the festive spirit is one of the best parts of the year, but it can get a bit pricey. A day out at a Christmas market often involves petrol money, parking stress and then paying for the actual day out. But Northern has just launched an incredible offer that makes visiting some of Yorkshire’s most charming markets an absolute bargain. People can now get into the Christmas spirit without worrying about the cost of travel or the hassle of driving.

What this offer is all about

It is wonderfully simple. Northern is offering special train tickets to selected Yorkshire towns for just £2. Yes, literally two pounds. For children, it is only £1. A family of four could travel return for just £6. That means more money left for mulled wine, handmade gifts or a bag of roasted chestnuts. Northern says the whole point is to help people enjoy the festive season without financial stress. It is an easy and affordable way to make some Christmas memories.

Where the festive trains can take you

The offer covers travel to five beautiful Yorkshire destinations, each with its own Christmas market or seasonal event. Instead of battling crowds in the big cities, this is a chance to explore magical winter markets in picturesque towns. The scenic train ride is part of the fun too.

Here are the included events:

  • Harrogate Christmas Fayre
A traditional festive experience in one of Yorkshire’s most elegant towns, packed with gift stalls and Christmas treats.
  • Knaresborough Christmas Market
Imagine drinking hot chocolate while overlooking the famous viaduct. It is one of the most beautiful festive scenes in the county.
  • Scarborough Sparkle
A seaside Christmas market with twinkling lights and a cosy coastal atmosphere.
  • The Piece Hall Christmas Market, Halifax
Held in the stunning courtyard of The Piece Hall, one of the most dramatic festive settings in the UK.
  • Skipton Christmas Market
The whole town transforms into a bustling Christmas celebration, full of independent stalls and festive cheer.

How to get the discounted tickets

The tickets are easy to buy, but you need to be organised. You must book your special £2 or £1 ticket at least three days before you travel. They are available on:

  • The Northern website
  • The Northern mobile app
  • Ticket vending machines
  • Ticket offices at stations

But here is the important part: the discounted tickets are limited. Once they are gone, they are gone. If you know you want a festive day out in Harrogate, Knaresborough, Scarborough, Halifax or Skipton, it makes sense to book sooner rather than later.

Why take the train instead of driving

Driving to Christmas markets can be a nightmare. Traffic jams, full car parks and expensive parking charges are enough to ruin anyone’s mood before the day even starts. With a Northern train, you skip all of that. You can relax, stay warm, enjoy the scenery and arrive right in the heart of town. No traffic. No stress. No parking fee. It is a calmer and more enjoyable way to start a festive day out.

A message from Northern

Alex Hornby, Northern’s customer and commercial director, explained why they launched the offer when the update went live on 17 November 2025.

He said:

“To help everyone get into the festive spirit this year, we are offering cheap fares so customers can travel to some of the brilliant traditional Christmas markets across Yorkshire. We know how popular the big cities can be, so we wanted to shine a light on the fantastic markets and events in the smaller towns we serve. We hope these great ticket prices will leave our customers with a little extra money to spend at the stalls. They can also avoid all the stress that comes with sitting in traffic and searching for a parking space during these busy events. There are only a limited number of these discounted tickets available, so we are encouraging customers to book now to avoid missing out.”

At its heart, this offer is about bringing people together, supporting local towns and helping families enjoy the magic of Yorkshire’s Christmas markets without worrying about cost.
