Welcome to Yorkshire

•A new bus route has been launched to celebrate a significant achievement for Hull Kingston Rovers (Hull KR) and to help fans travel to their games more easily. This upgraded service, named Service 246, is designed to honour the club's remarkable victory in the Super League Grand Final against Wigan Warriors last year, where Hull KR triumphed with a score of 24-6.
Service 246 Named After Historic Win
Service 246 is an upgraded version of the previous matchday bus service, the 13C. The new name directly reflects the scoreline of Hull KR's impressive win, making it a fitting tribute to one of the greatest days in the club's history. The new bus service is not just a name change; it comes with revised timetables that better fit the kick-off times for games. Moreover, extra journeys have been added to accommodate more fans, ensuring that everyone can travel to Sewell Group Craven Park comfortably.
Affordable Travel for Fans
Using public transport to attend matches is a convenient and affordable option for fans. Single fares for Service 246 are capped at just £3, making it a great value choice for supporters. This bus service is one of the several ways to reach the stadium, with another option being Service 13. For those who want to plan their journey, the Stagecoach App includes an updated Journey Planner that provides details on local bus routes. Fans can even purchase tickets before boarding and track their bus in real-time, making the travel experience smoother.
Support from Stagecoach and Local Authorities
Matt Cranwell, the Managing Director of Stagecoach East Midlands, expressed pride in the new service:
“The triumph in the Grand Final capped what was a unique season for Hull KR – and one of the most notable in the history of rugby league. Many of our team are huge fans of the sport, so we wanted to do something to mark this incredible day.”
Cranwell hopes that local fans will embrace the bus service, allowing them to avoid the hassle of driving and parking at the stadium.
Benefits for the Community
Chris Jackson, the Executive Director for Regeneration & Partnerships at Hull City Council, also welcomed the new service. He stated,
“As a council, we welcome this new commercial service from Stagecoach East Midlands. Not only will it provide fans with even more choice in terms of how they get to and from games, but it also supports more sustainable and active travel.”
The aim is to help Hull become carbon neutral by 2030, and providing a reliable bus service contributes to this goal by reducing the number of cars on the road, thereby easing parking pressures around the stadium.
Hull KR’s Growth and Future
Phil Stow, Operations Manager for Hull KR, noted the club's significant growth in recent years and how this has created new challenges. “One of those problems has been ensuring that our loyal supporters have a reliable and sustainable way to travel to and from Sewell Group Craven Park to watch the World Champions,” he explained. The introduction of Service 246 aims to provide fans with an affordable and practical travel option while addressing parking issues in the area.
How to Access the New Service
For those interested in using the new Service 246, it is essential to check the timetables and plan the journey ahead of time. Fans can download the Stagecoach Bus App to access all the necessary information regarding bus routes, purchase tickets, and track the bus's location. This user-friendly approach makes it easier for supporters to attend matches without the usual stress of travel.
The launch of Service 246 not only commemorates Hull KR's historic victory but also enhances the matchday experience for fans, making it more convenient and enjoyable to support their team. With the backing of both Stagecoach and Hull City Council, this initiative is set to benefit the community and promote a greener way to enjoy sports.
