About the Team

Selby Disability Football Club is operated by NLY Community Sport, a not-for-profit organisation founded by James Grayson and Connor Rollinson. The club provides sporting opportunities for both adults and children with disabilities and learning difficulties across North and West Yorkshire, as well as working with schools in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

The club has already captured the hearts of many, with their training sessions receiving over two million views on social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. Their goal is not only to score 1,000 goals but also to raise funds to support their ongoing activities, which include covering equipment, transport, and match costs.

Players and Their Achievements

The team includes remarkable individuals such as striker and goalkeeper Billy Hobson, who represented Mencap GB in 2019 and even made headlines in the Selby Times. Another standout player, Tom Newton, has gained attention for his impressive "Newton Rocket" move, which has been viewed over 100,000 times online, catching the eye of former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Mark Crossley.

Community Spirit and Support

James Grayson, co-founder of NLY Community Sport, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming challenge, stating, “Our lads are absolutely buzzing for this. Scoring 1,000 goals in an hour is an epic challenge. It’s going to take teamwork, skill and a lot of cheering from everyone there. It’s the perfect way to get the World Cup fever going and show what Care Home Open Week is all about: bringing people together, celebrating what’s possible, and having a lot of fun along the way.”

Four members of the Selby Disability Football Club actually reside in a care home, making this event even more significant as it highlights the importance of community and inclusivity.
